Bow Sensor
Detect hidden risks before they bring your production to a halt.
Bent glass may appear harmless, but a single pane can stop the entire process. With the Viprotron Bow Sensor, you can identify glass bowing in real time, directly in-line, without gaps and without interrupting production.
More safety. More stability. More output.
Suitable for TG, LG, IGU, VIG and all other glass types and constructions.
How does the Bow Sensor work?
Precise real-time results through dual measurement
The Bow Sensor measures glass bowing directly in the running production line. It detects bent panes before they can interfere with sorters, IGU lines or laminating systems.
Dual measurements for maximum accuracy
Measurement in the direction of transport and perpendicular to it
Counter-sensors confirm the bowing on each lane
Multiple sensor lines enable a global evaluation
Result: Precise real-time data, even with changing glass types and under real production conditions.
Fewer unplanned downtimes
Higher production output
Stable processes in downstream processing & IGU/lamination
Improved efficiency & cost reliability
Seamless integration into existing lines
The Bow Sensor makes your production more predictable, safer and more efficient.
Typical areas of application
- Directly after the tempering furnace
- Before sorting systems
- Before IGU lines
- Before lamination
- For high-end quality assurance
- Ideal for retrofitting into existing plants

FAQ
-
Bent glass is often underestimated, yet it can block sorting systems, cause panes to break, and bring entire production lines to a standstill. This results in unplanned downtime, scrap, delays in downstream processing and increased safety risks for employees.
Viprotron ensures, with the Bow Sensor, that these issues are detected at an early stage at our customers’ facilities, preventing unplanned delays or downtime. -
The Bow Sensor can be installed either horizontally or vertically.
Typical installation positions include:
- directly after the tempering furnace
- before sorting systems
- before IGU lines or laminating systems
- before areas with high process risk
The system can be retrofitted in-line or integrated into new installations.
-
Yes.
The Bow Sensor provides precise real-time measurements at speeds of up to 60 m/min, without stopping the line or requiring gaps. This makes it ideal for modern high-speed production lines. -
The Bow Sensor operates without limitations on:
- TG (tempered glass)
- LG (laminated glass)
- IGU (insulated glass)
- VIG (vacuum insulating glass)
- Coated glass
- Glass of different thicknesses
This covers almost every type of glass applications.
-
The Bow Sensor combines measurement in the direction of transport and perpendicular to it, resulting in particularly stable and reliable measurement results.
Precision:
- ±0,2 mm in the longitudinal direction
- ±0,6 mm in height
This level of accuracy is achieved under real production conditions.
The Bow Sensor detects bowing before it can interfere with sorting systems, IGU lines or lamination processes. This allows problematic panes to be selectively removed or reassigned before a crash occurs.
-
The Bow Sensor uses ultrasonic distance sensors to capture the surface of the glass multiple times per second.
- Counter-sensors confirm the bowing of each lane
- Multiple sensor lines enable global bow measurement
- The algorithm compensates for variations caused by transport rollers
-
No. The measurement is performed in line without any stops or gaps and without modifying the transport system.
The sensor adapts to your existing line speed.
-
Very low.
The Bow Sensor can be:
- integrated into existing Viprotron systems as an "add-on"
- installed as a standalone solution
- retrofitted into almost any production line
Mechanical modifications are minimal.
-
Yes.
A standalone version is available and is ideal for production lines without existing Viprotron technology.
-
The sensor provides, among others:
- Global bow values
- Bowing per lane
- Trends and statistical evaluations
- Visualization in the Viprotron software when retrofitted into existing scanners
These data enable risks and process deviations to be diagnosed quickly.
-
Excessive bowing of large tempered glass panes can lead to dangerous spring-back movements.
The Bow Sensor detects such panes at an early stage, thereby minimising risks for employees at critical transfer points.
-
- Lower scrap rates
- Fewer machine downtimes
- Faster process diagnostics
- More stable downstream processing
- Reduces repair and cleaning costs
In many companies, the sensor pays for itself within just a few months. We would be happy to calculate your individual ROI – please feel free to contact us.
-
Yes. The Bow Sensor can be retrofitted horizontally or vertically to all existing installations.
Together, these systems form a complete inspection portfolio for modern glass production.
